Ruby Lane is one of my favorite places on the internet to find vintage and antique jewelry. I really think it’s the closest experience to an actual antique jewelry show that a person can have from home, except with no crowds and lots of useful search functions to help you find (and buy!) exactly what you want.

We’re going to start out with a little introduction to this fantastic resource and then we’ll get to tips and tricks, sprinkled liberally with photos of gorgeous jewelry!

What is Ruby Lane?
RubyLane.com is an ecommerce website that allows reputable dealers of antiques and collectables to have online storefronts all on the same well-organized, easily searchable website.
Ruby Lane has a fantastic jewelry section, brimming with interesting and unusual pieces from museum quality antique treasures to quirky, affordable vintage costume jewelry and everything in-between!
I’ve been buying jewelry on Ruby Lane for years.
Why is Ruby Lane different?
Ruby Lane is different from other online shopping portals because, quite simply, RubyLane.com is not full of junk. It’s a thoughtful, well-maintained environment that draws authentic antique dealers offering genuine treasures.
Want to see something very cool? You can actually view the Jewelry Terms & Conditions that Ruby Lane sellers have to agree to when creating a store on RubyLane.com.
It’s wonderfully specific, with clear definitions of “antique” and “vintage” as well as requirements for authenticity testing and my very favorite rule: “No commonly available, mass-produced jewelry.”
One might expect well-maintained online shopping portal to be exclusively for high end pieces, but RubyLane.com welcomes collectibles of a wide price range.
The combination of well-maintained AND open to products of all price ranges means that you might find an exquisite $17,000 diamond ring for that once in a lifetime purchase but you can also find an gorgeous $80 silver bracelet or a $40 midcentury brooch or a $110 Art Nouveau gilt locket for all those still very exciting but less financially stressful treat yourself moments along the way.

Even better, because sellers are required to write proper descriptions and provide multiple photos of each piece they list, you’ll have an easier time evaluating the offerings and deciding what you want to buy.
How to browse jewelry on Ruby Lane.
If you’re not sure what you want, it’s always fun to just randomly browse jewelry on RubyLane.com.
If you go directly to the Jewelry section of Ruby Lane, you’ll be met by a number of menu browsing options that starts by asking you if you’d like to view All Jewelry or view New Arrivals, by week or by day:
You’ll also be presented with an number of pre-set categories, like Antique Jewelry, Vintage Jewelry, and Artisan Jewelry or more specific ones like “Pins, Vintage Jewelry.”
Cruising “Today’s Arrivals” is my favorite when I don’t have a particular goal in mind. It’s a great way to snap up great deals and unusual pieces before other collectors beat you to ’em.
When you see a piece that catches your eye, click on it for a closer look. If you see something you like but aren’t ready to purchase, add it to your wish list so you can find it later (my RubyLane.com wish list is very, very well populated). You can also try clicking on the name of the shop to see what else that seller has to offer.
One of my favorite RubyLane.com browsing tricks is to click on the little “Browse Similar” icon that appears on search results. This will take you to products with a similar vibe to what you clicked on. (I can do this for hours.)
Search tips for finding jewelry on Ruby Lane.
Browsing is fun, but it’s when you’re hunting something specific that Ruby Lane truly shines.
Because Ruby Lane attracts legitimate, knowledgeable dealers as its sellers, shoppers like us who know what they want are able to actually get accurate results by using specific jewelry search terms.
For example, I wanted to know what antique paste jewelry I would be able to find by searching RubyLane.com. I love antique paste, don’t you?
I started with the very specific search “antique paste Saint Esprit” to find the three pieces above and a number of other similarly gorgeous options.
I decided I wanted to see more, so I widened my search terms to just “antique paste,” which turned up dozens more options, including this magnificent 18th Century Portuguese paste brooch and paste drop earrings.
Anywhere you go on RubyLane.com, you’ll see a search bar on the top right. You can search within individual sellers’ shops or Ruby Lane as a whole. You can also choose to search only listing titles or widen the search to descriptions for more results.
Once you have results, click on “Jewelry” under categories to limit irrelevant listings.
Ruby Lane saved searches, wish lists, and more.
If you’re hunting for something specific, the best thing to do is set up a Ruby Lane saved search.
After you search for something on RubyLane.com, you’ll notice a little heart icon under the search bar that says “Follow this Search.” Click on it and you’ll be notified daily, weekly, or monthly every time an item that meets your parameters is listed.
Following a search is a fantastic choice if you’re looking for something rare and in-demand, like an antique mourning ring.
Let’s say you dream of the perfect classic Georgian mourning ring. If you set up a specific search with terms like “Georgian mourning ring hair urn” and set the alert for daily, you’ll know immediately every time a pieces that meets your parameters is listed.
If you’re a little more open, you can keep the search more general, like “Georgian mourning ring” or even “memento mori” and you’ll see a wider range of options, including slightly different pieces like the glorious Sepia ring and Stuart Crystal slide pictured here.
If you love something but the moment isn’t right, add it to your Ruby Lane Wish List and you’ll receive a notification if it goes on sale. You can even create different Wish Lists by category with custom names!
I just checked my personal Ruby Lane account and it looks I have no fewer than 43 separate Wish Lists(!!) for different categories of jewelry….so you KNOW I love this feature.
You can also save a shop and receive notifications when a seller you love posts something new. Ruby Lane makes it so easy to effectively search what’s already online AND makes it possible to receive alerts as soon as there’s something new listed that you’d want to know about.
