New : The Black Fingerprint Ring
New for 2021, we recently launched the Black Fingerprint Ring. Custom-made from Zirconium, the ring features a subtle fingerprint engraving added to the inside or outside surface of a comfortable court-profile band.
What are black wedding rings?
Few men are aware of the existence of black wedding rings for men. The majority of guys choose traditional metals and finishes, namely silver and gold. Over the last 5 years, the range of materials and designs has increased significantly. One of the newest additions is the metal Zirconium. Like Titanium, Zirconium is a very hard, durable metal. Lightweight, affordable and durable it is also very versatile. In addition to black, it can be anodised in alternative colours.
Why wear a black wedding ring?
Black wedding rings appeal to many modern couples. During our wedding shows in 2016 – 2017 Black Zirconium featured as one of the most requested materials. Interestingly, a higher proportion of men requested the possibility of a black wedding ring. The choice came down to two main factors. Firstly Black rings are trending right now. They are new, unusual and break the tradition of a mirror-polished gold band. Secondly, they resonate with buyers looking for a unique wedding band in durable and affordable metal.

What is the best metal for a black wedding ring?
The best metal for a black wedding ring has to be Black Zirconium. Why? There are several good reasons. Despite the availability of Tungsten Carbide, little can be done once sized. For this reason, a Tungsten Carbide ring can cause an issue if it cannot be removed. Tungsten cannot be cut from the finger owing to its incredible hardness. As a result, this poses a significant medical risk. For this reason, Black Zirconium tends to be a more informed choice when it comes to a black wedding ring. In fact, plain Zirconium wedding rings can be adjusted fractionally for size.
Matte Black Wedding Rings
The combination of a satin finish with a black wedding ring gives rise to the matte black wedding ring with a silky black sheen. The Raven wedding ring provides the perfect matte black finish on a very simple domed wedding ring design. Mattel black wedding rings resonate with modern ring buyers and make an affordable choice crafted in Zirconium.

Are black wedding rings for men or women?
We create black wedding rings for men. In addition, we create bespoke versions in narrower widths for women. Interestingly, some brides choose a matching wedding ring to their partner for this reason.
Are black wedding rings used as divorce rings or bereavement rings?
We have been asked whether black rings represent bereavement or mourning. We have also heard of individuals swapping their regular wedding ring for a black wedding ring after divorce. As a dress and accessory colour, the association of the colour black is often associated with death or loss. A person’s reasons for wearing this colour really are individual. You cannot or should not generalise. By way of argument, take the classic Channel little black cocktail dress. Few would suggest this a suitable garment for a funeral, despite its colour. In spite of such suggestions, the trend of wearing a black wedding ring grows and its demand continues to rise.

One of our black wedding rings for men includes a wood inlay. Together with other wood types, Ebony provides a perfect black inlay for wedding rings.
Can you engrave black wedding bands?
We regularly engrave Black wedding rings. We engrave Black Zirconium. Laser engraving on black zirconium produces a white engraving. However, it should be noted that it is very difficult to engrave on Tungsten Carbide with the same results as Zirconium. Wording, dates, roman numerals and fingerprints can be added to Black Zirconium wedding rings. For a unique effect, try adding patterns to the wedding ring.
Can you get two-tone black and white wedding rings?
Our best example of a ‘black and white’ wedding ring is the Magpie design. Aptly named, Magpie is really black and silver. Zirconium provides the perfect metal to achieve both colours. We polish silver areas to contrast with the blackened Zirconium—achieved through heating and oxidation.
The aptly named Magpie black wedding ring features light and dark colouration.
Is it possible to refinish a black wedding ring?
Just like most other wedding ring metals, Black Zirconium can be re-finished. Once re-polished and satin-finished, the re-oxidised Zirconium blackens to restore it to an as-new condition. Part of our work involves the restoration of Black wedding rings.

Black diamonds in silver or Platinum wedding rings
If you prefer the look or a silver ring, some clients request a single black diamond to be added to their wedding ring. We regularly flush set a black diamond into a simple plain wedding band. Provided the wedding ring has enough depth, a tiny black diamond can be sunk into the surface of the ring. Choose a single diamond, or several black diamonds spaced out around the ring.
